Swingball Blues
01:32
|

When I play swingball I am sad
Because I am really bad
I don’t do it out of intellectual choice
When I play swingball I just can’t rejoice
I hit it again and again and again
I hit it again and again and again
I hit it again and again and again
When I play swingball I’m not good
Even though I know I said that I would be
Now it is plain that I am not
It’s the swingball blues that I have got
Now the third verse is the same as the first

Abergynolwyn

Abergynolwyn
Is my favourite station
On the Talyllyn Railway
In the heart of Wales
Yes Abergynolwyn
It’s a great location
7 miles from Tywyn
In the heart of Wales
Abergynolwyn
Is the station
Where the refreshment lady
Was left behind
In the story
By the Reverend Awdry
Four Little Engines
From 1955
Abergynolwyn
Has an adventure playground
Near the car park
With a very big slide
And a woodland walk to
The station platform
Where you can catch a train and
Go for a ride
Abergynolwyn
Is just past Dolgoch
About five miles from
Cynfal Halt
Travel there with Douglas
Or Edward Thomas
Or maybe Dolgoch
Sir Haydn or Tom Rolt
At Abergynolwyn
Is the Quarryman’s Cabin
Where they sell good coffee
And tea and toast
And when you’ve eaten
You can get the steam train
Back down to Tywyn
And the Cambrian Coast

41241

Built in 1949
Worked on the Somerset & Dorset line
Made to Henry Ivatt’s design
It has really stood the test of time
Built at the loco works in Crewe
Its wheel formation is 2-6-2
Weight is just over 65 tons
And its number’s 41241
41241
41241
41241
Ivatt 2mt
A working loco for BR
Lived in Bath then Leamington Spa
It steams at 200 PSI
Which, as boiler pressure goes, it’s really quite high
After being in service for 20 years
It was saved by preservation pioneers
Quite a long story but I’ll tell you briefly
Now it pulls trains from Haworth to Keighley
Bachmann made one in OO gauge
I’ve got one on my model railway
It’s not well made, runs quite slow
I would ask for a refund but it’s 20 years old, you know…
In 1968 in the month of June
Painted in non-BR maroon
It pulled its first Worth Valley train
41241’s its name
In 1980 they painted it black
It went out of service but it had to come back
Fully overhauled and ready for steam
In the middle of June of 2018
They held a weekend of celebration
To mark 50 years of preservation
Can you guess which loco pulled the train?
Yes, 41241 again

Indignation Meeting Leeds, UK
We are punky railfans from Leeds. 14 year-old Peter is the driver – he’s the drummer and lead singer, writes most of the songs, and also plays bass and trumpet on the album. The rest of the crew is his Dad Michael on guitar, Hugo on bass, and with Keith, Heather and Sally often along for the ride when we play out. ... more
